Cautions against Detention Beyond Legally Stipulated Period

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has issued a stern warning to all Nigeria Police Force members to respect fundamental human rights, particularly in pre-trial detentions. He emphasized that adhering to legally stipulated detention periods is not only a legal obligation but also essential for upholding individuals’ dignity and rights, as guaranteed by the Nigerian constitution.

According to ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Spokesperson, the Inspector-General of Police emphasized the importance of adhering to legally mandated detention periods, stressing that it’s not only a legal requirement but also crucial for protecting individuals’ dignity and rights.
