Life of Giving: Eze Okpoko 1’s Birthday Celebration Features Heartwarming Philanthropy

Every August 4, Eze Okpoko 1 of Obodo Ukwu, also known as Eze Ndigbo Ijegun & Ijeododo, Eze Chika Nwokedi marks his birthday. This year, however, took a new turn, as he showed remarkable love and solidarity in Ijegun, Lagos State, by gifting over 60 okada riders with cash, I00 sets of emblems, N3000 worth of fuel, and other support, delighting them and demonstrating his commitment to kindness and community upliftment.


The initiative, launched at Estate Junction, Ijegun, and expanded to Isheri-Osun, Ijegun-Ijeododo, and Ijagemo, drew Okada riders from multiple parks. Beneficiaries from diverse ethnic groups, including Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba, praised the monarch’s generosity as a groundbreaking act of kindness in Ijegun and Lagos.


They expressed admiration, hope, and gratitude for Eze Chika Nwokedi’s gesture, which transcended ethnic boundaries and highlighted his commitment to community service beyond ethnic divides. They disclosed that Eze Chika Nwokedi has a track record of generosity, with this being just one of many initiatives he’s undertaken.


They also commended his efforts in enhancing security measures in Ijegun, which have contributed to safeguarding lives in his domain, making the free fuel exercise an added bonus.
His kindness knew no bounds – passersby of all ages, from young to old, and men and women alike, all received a share of his generosity, highlighting his dedication to serving the community upliftment.


Some Okada riders who benefited from Eze Chika Nwokedi’s philanthropy at NNPC, Isheri-Osun, and Owoeye Filling Station in Ijegun praised the monarch’s efforts when speaking with journalists.
They commended his contributions to the community’s development, including streetlight installations, support for local businesses and vulnerable groups, and infrastructure improvements. Notably, they highlighted his role in promoting peace and unity in Ijegun, fostering a harmonious environment that transcends tribal divides.

Further more, from Aradun in Isheri-Osun, Secretary Chukwudi (Aka No 1) and Femi Arowolo expressed their shock and appreciation. “We love Eze, he has been doing this to us, we pray make God bless am” they said in unison. Aminu Mutari chimed in, touched by the monarch’s consistent kindness, recalling that Eze Chika Nwokedi had given him N5,000 the previous year, making this latest gesture even more meaningful.

Others, including Aminu Muritala, Onyemaechi Chinonso, and Jimoh Alao and others from Ijegun, expressed their surprise and gratitude, stating that Eze Chika Nwokedi’s kindness was unprecedented – no one had ever shown them such generosity there before. In appreciation, they offered prayers for Eze Chika Nwokedi’s long life and prosperity.

In an interview with journalists after the initiative, some cabinet chiefs praised Eze Okpoko 1 of Obodo Ukwu, describing him as a philanthropic and selfless leader who has consistently demonstrated a commitment to improving the lives of others. They all highlighted his generosity, kindness, and commitment to fostering peace and unity, noting that his charitable efforts have positively impacted many and earned him widespread admiration and respect.

Chief Dr. Godwin Aneme and Akajiofor Ndigbo Ijegun Ijeododo, Chairman of Eze Okpoko Palace, described Eze Chika Nwokedi as a man with a “big heart,” citing his extensive track record of charitable endeavors. Dr. Godwin, who aspires to emulate the monarch’s philanthropic spirit, humbly acknowledged his own charitable efforts, stating they couldn’t compare to Eze Chika’s consistent and unbiased generosity. He concluded by praying for the monarch’s longevity in good health.

Emeka Onwukaobi, the Onowu of Ijegun Ijeododo, reaffirmed Eze Chika Nwokedi’s dedication to improving the lives of his subjects and the broader community. He noted that the monarch’s philanthropic efforts have been a longstanding tradition, spanning many years. Describing Eze Chika as a unifying figure who transcends tribal and social divides, Onwukaobi prayed for the monarch’s long life in good health.

Hon. Charles Chidozie Okadire, who has known Eze Chika Nwokedi for over 30 years, described him as a selfless leader, citing his exemplary tenure as Chairman of Ladipo International Market for four years. Okadire highlighted the monarch’s commitment to caring for the homeless and less privileged, a trait he has consistently demonstrated. He concluded by extending birthday wishes to the monarch.

The Obi Udo of Ijegun Ijeododo, Chukwuemeka Azuruike, praised Eze Chika as a remarkably generous and humane individual, especially in his kindness to the less privileged. He declared the monarch the most exceptional person he has encountered, stating that the community is deeply uplifted by his philanthropy and urging him to continue his benevolent endeavours.


Pst. Mrs. (Amb.) Dr. Tessy Chika Nwokedi, Ugoeze 1 of Ijegun Ijeododo, showered her husband with praise and prayers, highlighting his benevolence and philanthropic efforts as a source of support for many in need. She noted that his birthday celebration was particularly special this year, as he went above and beyond by gifting money, free fuel to motorbike riders. She noted that Eze Chika has intensified his dedication to supporting the less privileged, and offered prayers for his long life, success, and fulfillment of his aspirations.

On his birthday, Eze Chika Nwokedi expressed his gratitude for the gift of life, choosing to celebrate by bringing joy to okada riders. He believed that instead of honoring people after they’re gone, it’s more meaningful to make a positive impact on their lives while they’re still alive. To further mark the occasion, he planned to visit a motherless baby home, sharing the celebration with those in need.
Reflecting on his humble beginnings, Eze Chika shared his heart-wrenching story of once being homeless, forced to sleep at his workplace due to lack of other options. He recounted the painful experience of being abandoned by friends and family he had relied on, and how this hardship deepened his empathy for those in need. Now, having overcome his struggles, Eze Chika is committed to helping the less fortunate, drawing from his own experiences to make a meaningful difference.


Eze Nwokedi attributed his success to divine favor, saying, “Once a beggar, now a giver,” from “rags to riches” highlighting the remarkable turnaround in his life.
He pointedly asked, “What’s the value of wealth if it doesn’t touch lives?” He urged people to measure their wealth not by their bank balance, but by the positive difference they make in the world.

“Does your prosperity bring joy to others, or just yourself? How many students have you sponsored? What lives have you changed for the better?” He humbly added, “My giving may not be grand in scale, but it’s driven by genuine care and a desire to make a difference.” Most importantly, Eze Chika Nwokedi called for a culture of generosity and giving.
