In a bold move to reaffirm its dedication to human rights, the Nigeria Police Force, led by Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has launched an initiative to expand Gender-Based Violence (GBV) desk offices across all police divisions nationwide. This strategic expansion aims to boost efficiency, enhance service delivery, and provide citizens with easier access to justice, further solidifying the police force’s commitment to protecting the rights and well-being of all individuals.

The Nigeria Police Force is taking a significant step to combat gender-based violence by expanding its GBV desk offices to the divisional level, according to a statement by the Force Spokesperson, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi. Previously, these offices were only available at zonal and state commands, but now they’ll be accessible at all police divisions nationwide. This move aims to provide prompt, specialized, and professional attention to cases of gender-based violence.

To support this expansion, the Inspector-General of Police has directed the appointment of qualified officers as GBV desk officers.These officers will undergo specialized training to equip them with the necessary skills, knowledge, and expertise to handle GBV cases effectively. Additionally, they’ll oversee the Juvenile, Women, and Children sections within their divisions, creating a more comprehensive support system for victims of gender violence.

This integration is designed to provide a holistic approach to handling gender-based violence and related cases, fostering a supportive environment for victims and ensuring swift justice delivery.
