Aroyewun Hosts Inaugural Peace and Security Meeting, Advocates Community Policing

On Wednesday, September 24, 2025, the Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area held its inaugural Peace and Security Meeting at the Council Secretariat under the chairmanship of Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun. The meeting united security operatives, community leaders and key stakeholders to discuss peace and security matters in the area.

According to Oluwaseun Ajayi, Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman, Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, the gathering provided a platform for frank discussions on the security situation within the LCDA and the collective responsibility of sustaining the peace being enjoyed by residents. Stakeholders warmly congratulated the Chairman on his assumption of office and pledged their support for his administration.

Security agencies reported that Igbogbo/Baiyeku has remained relatively peaceful in recent months but emphasised the need for greater community cooperation. They urged residents to volunteer credible intelligence that would help in proactive policing.

“If you see something, say something,” they advised, assuring that all reports would be treated with strict confidentiality.

Key issues raised during the deliberations include:

I. The urgent need to ban scavengers, popularly known as “Bolla”, from communities in the LCDA, with appropriate signage to enforce compliance.

II. Proper identification for commercial motorcyclists through the issuance of ID cards and reflective jackets, amid concerns that some riders are involved in drug peddling and other illicit activities.

III. An appeal to business owners to strengthen security around their establishments and safeguard their assets.

IV. A call for the Community Development Committee (CDC) to intensify public enlightenment campaigns on personal and community safety.

In his remarks, Chairman Aroyewun commended the security agencies for their cooperation, swift response, and proactive strategies since his administration took off.

He reiterated that security remains the bedrock of development and urged them to redouble their commitment to maintaining law and order.

He further charged the LCDA Youth Coordinator to roll out sensitisation programmes aimed at reorienting young people and steering them away from drugs and other vices. He also appealed to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) to address cases of police brutality, stressing that such incidents undermine trust between the police and the public, especially young people.

The meeting concluded with a unanimous agreement on the importance of vigilance, synergy and proactive collaboration between the government, security agencies and residents to maintain lasting peace and stability in Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA.

This collective effort aims to create a safe and secure environment, leveraging community involvement and open communication to tackle security challenges.
