… Warns Against Extortion, Harassment, Human Rights Violations, and Unprofessional Conduct

CP Olohundare Jimoh convened a meeting with Area Commanders, DPOs, and Tactical Commanders to discuss police conduct and key operational issues in Lagos State, aiming to enhance service delivery and community policing.

According to SP Abimbola Adebisi, Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, CP Jimoh issued a stern warning against extortion, harassment, human rights violations, and unprofessional conduct, including name-calling, especially targeting youths.

He reminded officers of their duty to uphold citizens’ rights and dignity, emphasizing that crime prevention must be humane and not subject Nigerians to unnecessary hardship.

The Police boss has warned police officers against stopping youths on the road to check and search their phones, describing the practice as unlawful. Phone searches are only permitted within police stations during legitimate investigations and when the devices are exhibits in established cases.

He emphasized that crime prevention must be carried out with a human face, and police officers should not subject Nigerians to unnecessary hardship. He also cautioned against extortion, harassment, human rights violations, and unprofessional conduct, particularly targeting youths.

Highlighting the Command’s achievements for the month under review

The Commissioner of Police highlighted significant successes, including:

– Arrest of Samsideen Oladiti (a.k.a. Shameleon): Linked to two violent crimes

– Jude Onouha: Notorious vehicle vandal posing as security personnel to access estates

– John Samuel: Ex-convict and armed robber arrested for armed robbery and attempted murder, involving gold jewelry worth millions of naira.

These successes reflect the ongoing commitment of the Lagos State Police Command to rid the state of criminal elements and ensure residents safety.

The CP urged residents to continue assisting and cooperating with the police by providing credible information to aid in maintaining a safe environment.
