Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, donated ₦100 million, four 2-bedroom apartments, two pickup utility vehicles, four cows, 500 bags of rice, and other food items to the Nigerian Legion, marking the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

This gesture reaffirms his administration’s commitment to supporting Legionnaires and families of fallen heroes.

Governor Sanwo-Olu announced the donations on Monday at the Lagos House, Ikeja, during the Appeal Fund and Launching of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem, held at the State Executive Council meeting.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, speaking at the event, called the Emblem Appeal a lasting Nigerian tradition, emphasizing that honouring fallen heroes is a constitutional and moral duty.

“Our sovereignty as a nation exists because of these brave men and women. The Emblem Appeal is a responsibility we owe to those who laid down their lives for Nigeria and those who returned with life-changing injuries,” Sanwo-Olu said.

He promised the Nigerian Legion continuous support, stating the donations showed appreciation for the Armed Forces’ sacrifices in safeguarding Nigeria’s unity and freedom.

Nigerian Legion’s Lagos State Commandant, Akeem Wolimoh, commended Governor Sanwo-Olu and the state government for their support, describing Lagos as one of the most supportive states for the Legion.

He said the support over the years has boosted Legionnaires’ living conditions, and dependants have benefited from skill acquisition and empowerment programs via the Ministry of Women Affairs and other state agencies.

Top govt and security officials attended the event, including Deputy Governor Dr Obafemi Hamzat, SSG Barr. Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, Head of Service Bode Agoro, Chief of Staff Tayo Ayinde, EXCO members, and Nigerian Legion officials.

Also, there were Air Commodore M.A. Imam (Sam Ethnan Air Force Base, Ikeja), Brigadier-General A.O. Owolabi (9 Brigade, T.A. Lagbaja Cantonment), CP Olohundare Jimoh, and other senior Nigerian Armed Forces officers
