At the decoration ceremony on March 9, 2026, IGP Disu said the officers’ promotion recognized their decades-long dedication, professional excellence, and commitment to serving Nigeria through policing.

The Police boss stated that the ceremony marked more than just a change in insignia – it signalled the officers’ assumption of greater leadership roles in steering the Police Force.

He noted that being promoted to Deputy Inspector-General of Police is a top-tier level of trust within the institution, requiring wisdom, integrity, courage, and a commitment to justice.

The IGP urged the new DIGs to provide strong leadership, reinforce discipline, and drive reforms to reposition the Force.

The decorated officers are DIG Zachariah Fera Achinyan, DIG Zango Ibrahim Baba, DIG Isyaku Mohammed, DIG Margaret Agebe Challa, DIG Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman, DIG Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, DIG Fayoade Adegoke Mustapha, and DIG Umar Shehu Nadada.

The police boss urged the newly promoted senior officers to provide strong institutional direction and help strengthen internal discipline while driving reforms aimed at repositioning the Force.

He noted that Nigeria’s security landscape is getting increasingly complex, with threats from organised crime, cybercrime, and violent networks.

The IGP tasked the DIGs to leverage their experience to strengthen intelligence-led policing, enhance inter-agency collaboration, and improve operational coordination across the Force.

He stressed accountability is key, saying their leadership must boost confidence within the Force and earn public trust. Disu said the Force aims to be more professional, tech-savvy, and citizen-focused, adding that the DIGs are crucial to this transformation.

The IGP thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting the Police Force’s efforts to boost national security.

He praised the Police Service Commission for partnering with the Force and ensuring transparency and professionalism in promotions.

Disu congratulated the new DIGs, urging them to see their promotion as both a recognition of their past service and a call to greater national duty.

He encouraged them to lead with honour, uphold professionalism, accountability, and discipline, and help build a police force that’s respected, trusted, and capable of securing Nigeria.
