The event attracted nutrition experts, policymakers, healthcare professionals, development partners, academics and industry stakeholders, all of whom emphasised the need for stronger collaboration to build a healthier and more sustainable food ecosystem in the country.

Speaking during the summit, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Nestlé Nigeria, Wassim Elhusseini, stated that nutrition goes beyond food production and extends to every stage of the value chain, including sourcing, processing, storage, distribution and accessibility.

According to him, food and nutrition security cannot be achieved without effective systems that support healthy living and ensure quality food gets to consumers safely.

“When we talk about nutrition, we are not only talking about food, we are also talking about the systems that support healthy living, from preconception to healthy longevity, and about food and nutrition security,” he said.

Elhusseini noted that nutrition does not begin at the factory or end on store shelves, stressing that it is shaped by how food ingredients are sourced, produced, distributed and eventually delivered to consumers. He explained that Nestlé Nigeria’s operations are guided by the company’s commitment to creating shared value for society while ensuring long-term sustainability.

According to him, the company remains committed to responsible sourcing of raw materials, quality production processes and safe distribution practices aimed at delivering quality products to consumers. The Nestlé Nigeria CEO further revealed that the company’s focus extends beyond food production into strengthening rural livelihoods and supporting broader food systems.

He said Nestlé has continued to invest in grain quality improvement, dairy development, women empowerment, youth upskilling and environmental sustainability initiatives. Elhusseini added that the company promotes regenerative agriculture, water efficiency and circularity initiatives as part of efforts to protect natural resources and strengthen environmental sustainability.

“We have seen something consistent: when livelihoods improve and systems work better, families become healthier and communities become more resilient,” he stated. Describing “Nestlé for Good” as the company’s daily expression of value creation and sustainable impact, Elhusseini said meaningful progress in food and nutrition systems can only be achieved through collaboration among governments, industries, healthcare professionals, development partners, civil society organisations, academia and local communities.

He explained that the summit was not only organised to encourage conversations around nutrition and sustainability but also to showcase the impact of Nestlé’s programmes under its key pillars of nutrition, thriving communities and environmental sustainability.

Elhusseini appreciated all partners and participants for their contributions towards building a more sustainable food and nutrition ecosystem in Nigeria and expressed optimism that the summit would inspire greater collaboration and long-term impact.

The summit also featured breakout sessions focused on nutrition security, sustainable community livelihoods and environmental sustainability, with participants sharing ideas and strategies aimed at improving health outcomes and strengthening food systems across the country.
