OGUN POLICE ARREST CULT LEADER, FOIL ARMED ROBBERY OPERATIONS, RECOVER STOLEN PROPERTY IN MAJOR CRIME CRACKDOWN

The Ogun State Police Command has recorded major operational successes in its ongoing crackdown on criminal activities across the state, leading to the arrest of a suspected cult leader, the disruption of a planned cult initiation exercise, the foiling of an armed robbery operation, and the recovery of stolen property.

The achievements were disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, who said the breakthroughs were recorded through intelligence-led operations carried out by operatives of the Mowe, Ago-Iwoye, and Warewa Divisions.

According to the statement, the operations resulted in the arrest of three suspects linked to cultism, armed robbery, and receiving stolen property. Police also recovered a stolen motorcycle, parts of a 10KVA generator valued at ₦650,000, and other exhibits connected to the crimes.

Babaseyi stated that in Mowe, operatives arrested a 26-year-old suspected leader of the Eiye Confraternity following credible intelligence about a planned initiation exercise aimed at recruiting new members into the cult group.

He explained that police surveillance and strategic deployment led to the suspect’s arrest and the successful disruption of the initiation exercise before it could be carried out.

The suspect reportedly confessed to his leadership role within the cult group and admitted involvement in cult-related activities during preliminary investigations. He has since been transferred for further investigation and prosecution.

In another operation, operatives attached to the Ago-Iwoye Division foiled the activities of suspected motorcycle-snatching robbers operating along the Ita-Merin axis of Ago-Iwoye.

The police spokesman disclosed that on June 16, 2026, a commercial motorcyclist was attacked by two passengers who allegedly struck him with a hammer before making away with his motorcycle.

Following a distress alert, residents pursued the suspects and apprehended one of them. Police officers who arrived at the scene prevented an attempted mob action against the suspect and restored order. The stolen motorcycle and the hammer allegedly used in the attack were recovered as exhibits.

Further investigations revealed that the suspects specialized in targeting commercial motorcyclists along isolated routes, attacking them and stealing their motorcycles. The police also linked the arrested suspect to similar incidents within the area, while efforts are ongoing to arrest his fleeing accomplice and dismantle the wider criminal network.

Similarly, detectives attached to the Warewa Division arrested a suspect allegedly involved in the unlawful diversion and sale of a 10KVA generator worth about ₦650,000. The police said the generator had been rented out for legitimate business purposes before being fraudulently diverted and sold for ₦15,000.

Acting on intelligence, detectives traced the stolen property to Kara-Isheri, where the suspect was arrested while dismantling the generator into parts. Some parts of the generator were recovered during the operation, while investigations suggest the suspect may be part of a larger network involved in similar fraudulent activities.

Reacting to the successes, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the professionalism and vigilance of the operatives involved.

He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to proactive and intelligence-driven policing and assured residents that Ogun State would remain hostile to criminals and criminal activities.

The Commissioner also urged members of the public to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information to aid crime-fighting efforts across the state.
