The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Maritime Police Command, AIG Chinedu Oko, psc, on Wednesday, 15th October 2025, paid a courtesy visit to the Federal Operations Unit, Zone A, of the Nigeria Customs Service in Ikeja, Lagos State. The AIG and his entourage were warmly received by the Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs, ACG Mohammad Babandede, and his management team.

ASP Adebayo Rasheed, Police Public Relations Officer of the Maritime Police Command, Force Headquarters Annex, Lagos, disclosed that AIG Chinedu Oko, psc, during his visit, emphasized that the engagement was part of his familiarisation tour undertaken shortly after taking office.

He noted the need for sustained inter-agency cooperation, intelligence sharing, and joint operational synergy between the Maritime Police Command and the Nigeria Customs Service, particularly within the maritime domain.

The AIG Maritime noted that effective collaboration among security agencies remains vital to curbing economic crimes along port corridors, while fostering a secure and enabling environment for legitimate business activities within and around the ports.

In his response, ACG Mohammad Babandede commended the AIG Maritime for the visit and expressed readiness to deepen the existing partnership between both agencies in the spirit of national security and economic stability. He also pledged continued cooperation through timely intelligence sharing and inter-agency support.

The visit was concluded with an exchange of plaques and a group photograph, symbolizing mutual respect and institutional partnership.

This visit further underscores the shared commitment of both institutions to enhancing operational efficiency, intelligence-driven policing, and proactive maritime security measures across the nation’s ports and coastal environments.
